District IV TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION III TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 3 OF 3

DISTRICT IV

In the frigid North, the Winona State Warriors sit alone in first place with a record of 4-2 heading into their spring schedule. UW Eau Claire (5-4) and UW Stevens Point (5-4) will both look to challenge for the conference title, but it will be a tough road after both dropped series to Winona in the fall. Eau Claire currently holds the tiebreaker over Stevens Point for second place as they won the head-to-head series in the fall, 2 games to 1.

Down South, Loyola Chicago is out to a commanding lead after compiling a 7-1 conference record through the fall. The Ramblers have already racked up their record for most wins in a season and will look to add on through the spring. The Drake Bulldogs (3-2) will still have their shot as a massive Week 19 showdown looms against Loyola Chicago that will go a long way towards determining the South conference champion.

DISTRICT III

The Duquesne Dukes and Carnegie Mellon Tartans are currently tied for the East conference lead after both finished their fall seasons at 3-1.  This sets the stage for an opening week series with massive playoff implications as the Pittsburgh rivals face off in early March. However, Robert Morris (4-2) will also have their say in the conference title chase, as the Colonials still have upcoming series against both of the current conference leaders.

Heading out to the Western conference,  Cleveland State (2-0) is currently in first place after coming up one win short of reaching the World Series in the previous two seasons. The Vikings’ 11 returning players are eager to build off a strong showing in the Battle Creek Blast and take the next step as a program. Saginaw Valley (3-1) and John Carroll (3-1) are both only one game back after splitting the fall series between each other. Saginaw is looking to return to the World Series after coming up just short in a 2024 second-place finish, while the Blue Streaks looks to make a big splash in their NCBA debut.

DISTRICT II

George Mason currently leads the North conference with a 3-1 record and is the early favorite to repeat as District champions after their third place finish in the World Series last season. Richmond (2-2), held their own in their fall NCBA debut series as they split with George Mason and remain in the hunt. George Washington (2-2) and Virginia Commonwealth (1-1) will also look to unseat the defending District champs in their crucial upcoming spring series.

In the South conference, it’s anybody’s ballgame as realignment has led to a brand new collection of teams spread throughout the Carolinas. Duke returns 20 players from a roster that finished third in their conference last year and is an early favorite for the conference title. Gardner-Webb looks to make a playoff push in their NCBA debut season and are preparing with multiple scheduled non-conference series against Division I and JUCO opponents. Furman, Wake Forest, and Craven will also look to challenge for a conference championship.
