District Playoffs Day 1 Recap

District I: Hofstra‘s bats and Dickinson‘s pitching carried the #1 and #2 seeds to first round wins. The East and West champions will face off at 9 AM Saturday morning in the winner’s bracket.

District II: 4-seed Craven CC started the day off with a massive upset of the #1 nationally ranked George Mason Patriots. Craven continued with another upset of South conference rival #2 Gardner Webb to find themselves in the championship game. They will await the results of the loser’s bracket tomorrow.

District III: #4 seed Robert Morris was the story of the day in District III as they put together two all-around performances in upsets of West champion Saginaw Valley and 3-seed John Carroll. They await the survivor of the loser’s bracket in the championship game.

District IV: The individual performance of the day goes to Winona State‘s Joe Navratil who fired a first round no-hitter with 13 K’s on the day. Winona will face off with North conference foe UW – Stevens Point in the winner’s bracket tomorrow morning.

 

RAWLINGS WEEK 23 TOP TEN POLL

TOP TEN RECAP:

NUMBER ONE: George Mason finished off their season atop the District II North, earning 4 out of 5 first place votes. The Patriots punched their ticket to the District II Playoff where they will face Craven CC.

NEWCOMERS: Two new teams jump into the rankings this week as the District Playoffs are now finalized. Gardner Webb jumps back in at #9 after clinching their spot in the District II Playoffs. Saginaw Valley also debuts at #10 after winning the District III West title. Gardner Webb faces #8 Richmond in the District II Playoffs while Saginaw is matched up with Robert Morris in District III.

RAWLINGS WEEK 21 TOP TEN POLL

TOP TEN RECAP:

NUMBER ONE: George Mason (12-2, 9-1) finished off their season atop the District II North, earning 4 out of 5 first place votes. The Patriots punched their ticket to the District II Playoff where they await the second place finisher out of the South.

BIGGEST RISER: The Drake Bulldogs (10-4, 10-4) go from unranked all the way to No. 6 in this week’s poll! The Bulldogs took 2 out of 3 from previous No. 2 Loyola Chicago to win the District IV South in their debut season.

BIGGEST FALL: Loyola Chicago (12-7, 9-3) drops from No. 2 to No. 9 after dropping two non-conference games to MSOE and their big conference series to Drake.

NEWCOMERS: Three new teams jump into the rankings this week as the playoff picture takes shape. As previously mentioned, Drake debuts at No. 6 for their first ranking in club history. Winona State comes in at No. 8 after clinching the District IV North. Dickinson also rejoins the rankings at No. 10 after locking up the District I West championship.

KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS:

Week 22: MSOE (5-6, 3-6) at UW – Eau Claire (5-7, 5-4) – The Raiders look to play the spoilers as the Blugolds need a sweep to clinch a spot in the District IV Playoff.

Week 22: Lafayette (4-4, 4-4) at Lehigh (7-5, 7-3) – The second playoff spot out of the District I East comes down to the final weekend between two rivals separated by a mere twenty minutes in eastern PA.

Week 22: #5 Carnegie Mellon (10-3, 8-1) at Duquesne (6-3, 6-3) – The No. 5 Tartans look to keep the cross-town rival Dukes out of the playoffs with just this one game remaining on both teams schedules.

The next Division III Poll will be released on May 1st.

District III – Carnegie Mellon, John Carroll,  Saginaw Valley, and Robert Morris

District IV – Winona State, Drake, UW – Stevens Point, and DePaul

RAWLINGS WEEK 19 TOP TEN POLL

TOP TEN RECAP:

NEW NUMBER ONE: George Mason (10-2, 7-1) caps their steady climb up the rankings by finally capturing the number one ranking, including 3 first place votes. The Patriots took home two close games against VCU to gain some breathing room in the District II North and are looking forward to their next test against DI opponent Towson in Week 19.

BIGGEST RISER: The John Carroll Blue Streaks (10-4, 5-1) jump up from No. 9 to No. 5 in this week’s poll. The current first place team in District III West swept conference rival Cleveland State over the weekend and are in good position heading towards the playoffs.

BIGGEST FALL: Gardner Webb (11-6, 4-2) drops from No. 3 to completely out of the rankings after getting swept by No. 10 Wake Forest. The Runnin’ Bulldogs still control their playoff destiny but have little margin for error.

NEW TEAMS: Four new teams jump into the rankings from No. 7 to No. 10! Richmond (8-3, 6-2), Robert Morris (10-8, 6-2), Lehigh (7-3, 7-1), and Wake Forest (4-2, 4-0) all look to make a push to the playoffs after starting the spring season off with some quality wins.

KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS:

Week 19: Drake (5-3, 5-3) at #2 Loyola Chicago (10-5, 7-1) – The upstart Drake Bulldogs look to upset the second-ranked Ramblers and take control of first place in the District IV South.

Week 19: #9 Lehigh (7-3, 7-1) at #3 Hofstra (10-3, 8-0) – This matchup between the first and second place teams in District I East looks to have massive playoff implications.

Week 19: #8 Robert Morris (10-8, 6-2) at Duquesne (3-2, 3-2) – The Colonials and Dukes face off in this cross-town showdown as they each look to gain the upper hand in the race for the second playoff bid in District III East.

Week 20: #3 Hofstra (10-3, 8-0) at #4 Rowan (8-4, 5-1) – A series with two teams in the top five rounds out the key matchups for the next two weeks. The Pride and the Profs both look to come out on top and be in first place in District I East when the dust settles.

The next Division III Poll will be released on April 17th.

RAWLINGS WEEK 17 TOP TEN POLL

TOP TEN RECAP:

Loyola-Chicago (10-3, 7-1) remains the number one team in the country with their first test of the spring season coming up this weekend. After a conference sweep of rival George Washington, George Mason (8-2, 5-1) steps up to take over the  No. 2 spot. Gardner Webb (6-3, 4-0) continues their steady climb up the rankings to No. 3 after a strong showing in their non-conference games against NCAA teams. Carnegie Mellon (5-3, 3-1) jumps into the rankings at No. 7 after a strong showing in the Swing into Spring event including a win over Division II opponent Bowling Green. Finally, Dickinson (5-5, 4-0) had the biggest fall in the rankings this week, slipping from No. 2 to No. 10 after falling to fellow DIII contender Cleveland State in Panama City Beach.

KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS:

Week 17: #7 Carnegie Mellon (5-3, 3-1) @ #6 Duquesne (3-1, 3-1) – The top two teams in District III East face off to decide who will take control of first place in the Battle for the Burgh after a rainout last weekend.

Week 17: #8 York (2-0, 2-0) @ #10 Dickinson (5-5, 4-0) – The top two teams in District I West open their conference spring season to see who will take control of first place. Dickinson looks to get back on track after a tough non-conference slate in Panama City Beach.

Week 18: #9 John Carroll (6-4, 3-1) @ Cleveland State (3-8, 2-0) – Two of the top contenders in District III West open with a big matchup. Both squads have endured grueling non-conference schedules against DI and DII opponents to get them prepared for conference play.

The next Division III poll will be released on April 3rd.

RAWLINGS WEEK 15 TOP TEN POLL

TOP TEN RECAP:

After the first month of NCBA Division III competition, Loyola-Chicago (10-3, 7-1 District IV South) remains the number one team in the country. However, Dickinson (5-1,  4-0 District I West) is right on their heels as only a few points separate the top two teams in the poll. Gardner Webb (4-0, 4-0) made the biggest jump in the Week 15 Top Ten, going from unranked to No. 5. The Bulldogs swept both of their NCBA series to take the early lead in the District II South as they look to be strong contenders.

Fifteen different teams received votes as teams look to start establishing themselves as World Series contenders. Be sure to keep an eye on top teams like Dickinson, Rowan, Robert Morris, and Cleveland State as they head down to Panama City Beach for big non-conference games in the NCBA Swing into Spring event!

Division III World Series Location Announcement

The NCBA is excited to announce the 2025 Division III World Series will be returning to Pullman Park in Butler, PA, for a third consecutive year! The new two year agreement that was just signed will keep the DIII World Series in Butler for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Historic Pullman Park has been the host park for multiple minor league teams during its storied history and is currently home to the Butler BlueSox of the Tri-State Collegiate League.

The 2025 DIII World Series will take place from May 16-18, 2025.

RAWLINGS PRESEASON TOP TEN POLL

The 2025 spring season kicks off in eleven days! Loyola-Chicago debuts as the number one team in the country after a dominant fall has them sitting atop the District IV South conference at 10-3 (7-1 in conference). Hofstra (6-1, 4-0 District I East) and Dickinson (4-0,  4-0 District I West) sit at number two and three in the rankings after both received first place votes as well.

Fifteen different teams received votes in the preseason poll as each club looks to make a run to the Division III World Series!
